Common Short Codes (CSC) represent a fast-growing channel offering companies direct communication with millions of consumers through SMS. CSCs are four to six digit numeric codes to which text messages can be sent from a mobile phone for a whole host of applications such as accessing or buying mobile content (e.g. horoscopes, games, ring tones, coupons, etc.), voting for a favorite TV contest, or participating in a poll, and can be leased by any company through an SMS aggregator.
The first-of-its-kind Keynote Common Short Code study benchmarks the performance of 24 popular CSCs over a four week time period. Using Keynote’s commercially available Mobile Application Perspective, SMS messages were sent to each one of the short code addresses and the round trip delivery time was captured to replicate the end-user experience. Performance measurements were taken from New York and San Francisco over AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon networks.
